Last week end we hired a van from Ohiya to Horton plains. It cost us just Rs 500  Smiley

The van was operated by an elderly gentleman who identified himself as "Albert". After he dropped us off at the Ginihiriya bungalow we asked him to come at 6.45 a.m. on the next morning to pick us up and believe me he was there by 6.30 a.m.!

He gave us his phone number: 0786852196.

If you plan to visit Horton Plains by train this will be useful

Hi, I hope this isn't off topic, but you could even hire a three wheeler from the shops opposite the station. at some points along the way you have to get off for a short distance as the climb is too steep for a fully laden 3w, but its another available option if you miss the van.

also makes for quite an adventurous ride up to the plains Smiley

you could walk it as well, but make sure to pack light! our first time we packed everything but the kitchen sink and paid for it with a 5 hour relentless climb up the steep hills carrying the weight.

It is a beautiful walk though and don't count it out if you are fit and prepared. take plenty of water as i can't remember any obvious sources along the walk.

Hi everybody,

The number OP has given doesn't work anymore. It would be immensely helpful if somebody can give contact numbers of transport services in the area (ohiya\pattipola). Smiley

Let me add to this, do not take disposable plastic bottles or cans with u, which r not allowed. Sorry to say but there is only one boutique available near Ohiya station area where you don't find much to buy from there either. Two three wheelers were operated at the station stand but you have to wait for sometime for one to return. I went with my wife on that day and we had to find a place to keep our extra luggage, the 3wheel driver said we can keep the stuff at his uncles place, we had no choice than doing as he said. Unfortunately we lost a pair of sunglasses when we received the luggage back.
