All,
I was looking forward to booking a bungalow inside Yala, but have been very unlucky not to find one even though I had someone go on the following day bookings were open. He was told that Ministers and other influential people had already booked, as they have priority.
With my visit to yala only 3 weeks away, my only option is to stay in a hotel in the vicinity...which I would like to keep as a last resort. I have heard that there is a tree top room (or several rooms?) in an area bordering the national park, where sometimes elephants and other animals roam nearby. Does anyone have information on this?
If you do ahave any suggestions as to any type of unusual lodging nearby, please let me know.
Thank you in advance.
Robbie

I have been at back of beyond, Yala. I had the experience of having a few Elephants dropping by from midnight until 3 am, (they were chased away from the adjacent farmers by throwing crackers). Pls check with them http://www.backofbeyond.lk/

Sheham - Thanks very much for the info, but I do not see Yala listed on their website. The closest location is about 2 hours away, which makes it 4 hours back and forth. Could it be possible that the yala location is not listed?

hello Robbie, yes, Yala is not on the BoB web site, but it does exist... . it's a fabulous place with peace and comfort. I was their last month and had a great time. it's single cottage and can only accommodate about 6 or 7 pax. it's a simple yet comfortable place. BR, Kasun

There's a nice place called Pitisara hideout. It is very closer to Yala Katagamuwa entrance. Check out http://www.pitisara.comIt consists of eco-friendly cottages with a wooden deck (attic) on top.. and plenty of peacocks I stayed there last week and really love the place. Saman
