Route : Colombo -> Anuradhapura -> Rambewa -> Medawachchiya ->Vavuniya ->Kilinochchi->Jaffna through A9 road
 Jaffna -> Paranthan ->Puthukkudiyiruppu(A35) -> Pudumathalan  -> Puthukkudiyiruppu -> Oddusudan ->Mankulam (A34) -> Mihinthale -> Colombo

Duration : 24.05.2012 - 27.-05.2012 (4 day trip)

Day 1

We started the journey on 24th night at 10.00 pm. We reached Kanakarayakulam around 5.30 am. The first monument we saw, was the Kokavil war hero monument. We saw a new telecom tower built next to this monument.

Next, we went to see Iranamadu tank, by turning to a minor road in Iranmadu junction. It was around 7.00 am , therefore we had our breakfast near the tank.

After that, we saw the Kilinochchi war-hero monument and the blasted water tank at Kilinochchi. Next, we saw the 'Hasalaka Gamini's monument' .The Elephant pass war-hero monument is also very close to this place.

At around 11.00am we reached Jaffna town. It took us a longer time to reach there as the road was under-construction. But, it should be constructed by now as when we were returning the most of the part was already carpeted.

After early lunch, we set off to visit 'Dabakolapatuna' through KKS road.  On our way, we could visit Kadurugoda Stupas and the Bottemless well. We had to turn left at Chunkam junction and go around 2 km, and then in a small road to reach Kadurugoda Stupas.

After that, we returned to Chunkam junction to go straight the other way (turn right, if coming from Jaffna in KKS road) to see the Bottomless well. It is sad that this well was not clean as some people have thrown garbage into it.

Again, we returned to Chunkam junction and went straight to see the 'Keerimalee/ Keerimalai Aushadha pokuna'. This is separated from sea just by a wall.

Next, we worshiped the temple at Dabakolapatuna. The beach at this place is also very beautiful. We chose the road through Moolai to return to Jaffna town. Therefore, we could visit the lo vely 'Casurina beach' in Karaitivu island. As we were tried of long journey, we came straight our banglow early.

Day 2

We started to go to 'Nagadeepa Vihara' at 6.00 am. We reached Punkudutivu island through Kayts around 7.30 am. The 'Navy boat' to Nainativu around 8.00 am. The boat journey is about for 15 min.

After worshiping the temple, we came back to fort at Punkudutivu island. The Navy boat for Delft had left at 10.00 am, so we couldn't visit the island. Since the sea was rough, it was recommended not to use private boats as they were not very safe as Navy boats and the journey to Delft takes almost 1 hour.

When we were coming back to peninsula, we stopped  near the monument where Cpt. Kobbakaduwa were killed.

Since, it was too early to have lunch, we went to see Nalur Kovil. But, it was closed and we were told to come at 3.00 pm. Therefore, we decided to enjoy  delicious  ice-cream at Rio-cream near the kovil.

In the evening we visited Nallur kovil, the market and old Jaffna Fort. We also saw, the Jaffna library, Naga vihara, destroyed Jaffna Kachcheri etc.

Day 3

This is the day we are returning to Colombo. We departed from our banglow at 5.15 am after having a early breakfast. We decided to visit Mullathivu on our way home. We took the road through Elephant Pass and reached Paranthan. From there we turned to Mullavi (A35) road.

The first place we visited was a prison used by terrorists, which shows their brutality. It was in Vishwamadu , (I think its near Theravikulam).  Next, we visited a house where the main terrorist lived with underground bunker, thick doors and walls.

We were informed that many important places of the victorious war, were in Puthukkudiyiruppu. We had a small breakfast on our way. At Puthukkudiyiruppu junction, we were instructed about the places to visit.

We visited Susay's house, swimming pool used by black tigers, earth bund,  Submariance which was under-construction, ship Farah-3, Nanthi Kadal lagoon and the Victory War-hero monument built in Pudumattalan. Next we came back to Puthukkudiyiruppu junction. Finally we visited the coward main terrorist's last house at Puthukkudiyiruppu.

This road joins the A34 road (Mullathivu- Mankulam) at Oddusudan. It was about 6.00 pm when we reached Mankulam as the road was under-construction. It was about 3.30 am of 28th when we came back to Colombo.

Thank you all for valuable feedback.

I have emailed the admin including photos of important places. Sorry for late response.

We got accommodation in a government circuit bungalow which is only for government officers. Therefore rates are relatively low.
They provide a cook, so we took necessary food items, vegetables etc.

Since, there aren't many places (except for canteens maintained by Army Forces) in Pudukkudirippu to buy lunch , it's better to prepare/take lunch.

Great job..
When I went to Jaffna in 2009, there were no Navy boat to travel to Nainathivu.. There were some ferryboats to travel to Nainathivu and Delft.
I hope to visit Jaffna recently.
