Friends,

when i was travelling towards kandy two weeks ago, we saw that a guy was selling parrots in road side. There were four parrots each Rs. 750. They were very hardly struggling in very small cages and some damages in their beaks as well. It was so tearful to see that. Its a totally violation of wildlife act and freedom of wild animals. I decided to get some info of that guy and their business nature as talking as a buyer.

He said one of other fellow is capturing birds in paddy fields and giving bids to two guys to sell in road side. (Some people release cage birds to avoid their APALA). He is one of the seller. He said that they have other 15 parrots. I said i want to see them but he was into business of selling the birds in his hand. Although i never promote this kinda things, i just decided to buy them and release them at there becourse poor parrots are suffering a lot and i couldn't leave them as it is. I was watching the beauty of freedom when they are flying in sky rocket speed. (Place is 300 m from kirillawala petrol shed towards kandy side)

Then i spoke to one of the best environmental lawyer/ activist to get the advice and he has given me big support and ask me to lodge a complain in police. such case, Its a biggest violation of wildlife act and fine will be Rs 20,000 or 3 months prison period.

Then the following day on my return i went to police near by  lodge a complain But that lazy police guy took it as a very "funny" thing and i lost the confidence of proceeding with them. So i stopped it at there. But i checked again that guys were selling and doing their business as usual.

Now my effort towards to go through wild life department. friends you also can get some action. pls if you can do something for this case ...this is the time. If you have any connections of Wildlife Depart pls send info and make some effort. its our sole duty.

Thanks

Chamee

my advice?

No matter how bad u feel about the parrots, don't buy and release, your demand drives their supply. It's simple economics. If everyone stops buying to release, they will stop catching. So no matter how well intended your motives are, you are motivating  him to go capture more birds.

Enjoy nature while you still can, it's not going to be there forever.
