Thank you Malakar.

There is a clause saying that the Minister can cancel the reservations at any time... Someone within the Authority also told us the same..
If so maybe this is not something ordinary people like us can rely on neda...
But I wonder if anyone has got actually cancelled... Huh

Hi malaka,

I think what Manu has pointed out is true. Minister can cancel any outside booking and reserve the same bungalow for them under any circumstance.

But anyway this will help us a lot. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,
Amila

I stayed at their bungalow at Bakamuna during long week-end.
It has 5 normal bedrooms and 1 A/C bedroom.
Facilities are basic and the bungalow is not maintained properly.
(Actually we were only there at nights and we were travelling to Giritale,
Polonnauruwa, Pasikuda, Wasgomuwa...etc., keeping this place as
a central location)

Common sense tells me it's very unlikely that the minister would
cancell these bookings as he has not visited these bungalows for
sometime.

Malaka

Hi All,
Stayed at the Mahaweli Circuit bungalows at Naula, Matale and Maduru Oya over the last two weekends.

Both places were clean and the keepers were helpful. You need to take your provisions and they will cook what you want - not all types of meat though.

Locations not great as far as views etc are concerned as they are within their camps but can travel around using these as bases.

Each room was Rs 750/ per day and has two beds with attached toilets - clean and continuous supply of running water - and 24 hour electricity supply.

Naula has 3 rooms and all 3 open into the main living area. You may book just one room abut then the Mahaweli Authority can allow others to book the other two rooms  Sad No working plug points in rooms - but two available within the house for any charging of batteries etc.

No such problem at Maduru oya as the 4 rooms are separate, joined only by an outside corridor. Living area and kitchen are common. 2 working plug bases in rooms - at least in the ones we booked  Wink
In addition to room charges - paid in Colombo - a nominal amount is charged for linen and gas and this has to be paid to the keeper.

We were also told of cancellations - same applies to any government circuit - but are yet to experience it! The keepers told us that the ministers etc book them more during election times for their supporters etc!!!

Would recommend these - if you are looking for affordable basic places to stay  Smiley

Hi,
On the issue of cancellations - I think the way it works is that these are not holiday bungalows, they are meant for officials / officers ( not just Ministers) who are on 'circuit' ie outstation duty visits.  On days that the accommodation is not used they are open to the public. However, if any officer needs the accommodation they get first rights to it. This is the reason these places are so cheap, they have to be booked from a central official point ( and often need a 'recommendation' by a officer)  It may not work exactly like this now for a range of reasons but knowing the way it is supposed to work is helpful when we get kicked out ( as we have!).

But as you say, most are well worth the price, some a really badly maintained others are well maintained.

Access roads are good, but the place is really old, (may be worth for that money & there are no others options in that area). Caretaker & his cooking good. Other side of this huge complex is used by the Army and one could see many abandoned buildings. They say NO money to maintain them.

Maduru Oya NP really close from there
