Holombuwa Sthripura Gal Len Viharaya (Stone Cave Temple)

According to folklore, when in hiding, King Valagamba had concealed 500 of his queens in this cave, which is how part of its name originated. Sthripura means a place full of women. Unlike any other cave in Sri Lanka, it has a magnificent natural stone arch at the entrance to the cave. About 250 years after the reign of king Valagamba, the cave was discovered by some Buddhist priest who converted it into a temple like in most cases in Sri Lanka

Deliwala Kota Vehera

5 km North of Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage lies a quiet and peaceful temple without much hue and cry amidst the lush green paddy fields. Even though the appearance may not look so posh and lavish, the compound holds much significance for three ample reasons. First, climbing the narrow flight of stairways 40 – 50 feet up from the base of the temple premises lies the very place where one of the greatest Kings of Sri Lanka – Parakramabahu 1 The Great was said to be born.

Commonly considered ‘Sri Lankan Robin Hood’ Saradiel is historically known as Uthuwan Kande Soorya Saradiel for his countless engagements with the British

Dedimunda Devalaya – Aluthnuwara

This is a “devalaya” or temple that was built by the Dadimunda deity who was the general to Lord Vishnu. To this day, whenever there is a Vishnu temple one can see that a Dadimunda temple will flank it. The Dadimunda deity was put in charge of protecting Buddhism and eradicating the devils.
