Significance: Place of especial architectural Value

According to popular folklore, this kovil is dedicated to the Barandy God. The designer of this kovil is unclear. It is said, King Rajasinghe the 1st of Seethawaka (1581-91 AD), who converted to a Hindu from being a Buddhist, built this kovil when he became the king of the Hindu priests. The Kovil was restored by H.C.P. Bell in 1890 after being identified as a place of special artistic value. It is interesting to note that the kovil is built by interlocking stone blocks to each other like in an intricate jigsaw puzzle
